Measuring for Vertical Blinds

Inside Mount Application
1. Check for Proper Mounting Depth

Inside mounts require a minimum window depth to properly mount a blind or shade. If the depth of your window casing is not equal to or greater than the minimum mounting depth, you will need to measure for an outside mount application. The following chart lists our vertical blinds mounting depths sorted by lift type.

The Inside Mounting Depth is the minimum depth required to mount the product shown as inside mount. This depth typically allows for enough space for the brackets to be mounted, a portion of the blind or shade may protrude from the window opening.

If you want the blind to be fully recessed inside the window opening then you will require the depth found in the "Flush Inside Mounting Depth" column of the table. Note that you need to factor obstructions such as window cranks, handles and other items inside the window opening into your depth measurement.

2. Measuring the Window opening

Width
Using a steel tape measure, measure the exact width of the window opening at the TOP of the window (rounded down to the nearest 1/8th inch). This is the width you will order. DO NOT MAKE ANY DEDUCTIONS, the factory will make the appropriate deductions to provide proper fit and operation.

Height
Measure the exact height from the top inside edge down to the window sill/window bottom in THREE places: left, middle, right. Take the smallest/shortest of the three measurements (rounded down to the nearest 1/8th inch). This is the height you will order. The factory will take an approximate deduction of 1/2" for the verticals vanes to have proper clearance.

Flush Mount Notes
If you want to mount your blinds flush with the window opening and your windows have the appropriate depth as explained above, then select inside mount and specify in the notes section that you want a 'Flush Inside Mount.' Also give the exact size you want the Valance so it will fit into the window opening. This size should be typically 1/4" smaller than the Top width measurement of the window.

Outside Mount Application
1. Where to Measure
Where to measure for vertical blinds outside mount

Width
Wall Mount: Using a steel tape measure, measure the width of the window (left to right). If possible, add at least 3" to this measurement to ensure maximum light blockage (1 1/2" on each side). This exact width size will be your width, no deductions will be taken by the factory so make sure you give the exact width of the area you wish to have covered.

Trim Mount: Measure the exact width of the trim, edge to edge, from the left side of the window trim to the right side of the window trim. The section of the trim that will be directly mounted to needs to be at least 2" tall and be a flat and solid surface so the mounting brackets can be mounted properly. You will also want to make sure the top section of the trim is level so your window treatment hangs properly.

Height
Wall Mount: Measure the height of the window (top to bottom). To this measured height add at least 4" for proper bracket room and overlap. A minimum of 2" is required for bracket placement at the top, the rest is to minimize any light gap at the bottom of the window. You may add more to the measured height as you see fit.

IMPORTANT: If the vertical blind extends to floor (Ex. on a sliding patio door), deduct at least 1/2" from the height for clearance so the vertical vanes don't touch the floor.

Trim Mount: For the height on a trim mount, measure the trim's outside edge from top to bottom. Again, make sure the trim provides a flat, solid space so you can mount the blind to it.

Note: If you have a window sill that protrudes at the bottom of the window, adjust your height measurement so the blind has clearance over the sill. typically deducting 1/2" will allow for proper clearance.
